The Random Text Says: "" Why? Because I Can March 13th, 2002 - 3:00 a.m. I'm Currently Avoiding:I must be very frigging bored. I've just played like the longest game of Sweet Tooth on Pogo ever. Game Duration 303:31 Sweets Cleared 5260 Longest Chain Reaction 7 Tokens Awarded 2301 It's rather frightening that I spent that long playing just one game of that. It translates to...uh, *does math in head*...like 5 hours, 3 minutes, and 31 seconds playing that one game. Admittedly I was cooking and doing dishes and talking and generally ignoring that window for a very long time, but still... impetuous (adj. im-PECH-wuss or im-PEH-chuh-wuss) 1 : marked by impulsive vehemence or passion 2 : marked by force and violence of movement or action When we borrowed impetuous in the late 14th century, we used it of people and their actions. About a hundred years later, we added another sense to describe physical things like wind or storms or seas. (We don't use this second sense much anymore.) The word comes via Middle French from Late Latin impetuosus, which is from impetus. Latin impetus (which of course gave us our own impetus, meaning driving force) essentially means assault, but it also has figurative senses ranging from violence to ardor. Our impetuous has a similar range of meaning, from violent to passionate. It also carries the suggestion of impulsiveness. Often, we put a light touch on the word, as when we refer (somewhat longingly, perhaps) to our impetuous youth. I don't know, I think that's enough about my life being boring for now. I'll be back tomorrow and maybe I'll even have something interesting to say (Ha! Not bloody likely, but I suppose anything's possible). Oh wait. Could UPN stop putting on hockey games when I want to watch Buffy? Because that really pissed me off tonight when they pre-empted it for hockey of all things. They've done it before for...basketball or something. They need to stop doing that. It's really ticking me off. I couldn't care less about their little hockey game. Firestarter: Rekindled turned out to be pretty good. I'd recommend it over the original. And now I'm going away and I mean it this time. Oops, looks like I didn't.
