The Random Text Says: "" Commiserate With The Huge Companies July 31st, 2002 - 3:42 a.m. I'm Currently Avoiding:It's only been like a day since the last time I updated, but this might be the last entry for July and I think I might've made a rule someplace about being obliged to update on the first and last of every month in order to facilitate new monthly bits. Or something. I really need to maybe organize the months better. Or something. I don't know. I can't think of how I would do that easily here. Have you seen those Old Navy commercials? Aren't they really damned annoying? The only reason I felt obliged to mention it (and it is entirely possible that I've mentioned it more than once), is because I saw one of their commercials on TV. It was a rip-off of the opening to The Brady Bunch, that extremely irritating tv show leftover from the 70's that's still being endlessly rerun someplace I'm sure. So their little thing was "The Rugby Bunch"...and it was not only lame, but so annoying that it makes me want to punch Morgan Fairchild. The song by itself is jingly and upbeat enough to incite violence all on its own, but when you change the words and associate it with Old Navy clothes (and they really had to reach to make words fit the tune, to the point where it doesn't even really make sense for them to do it), then you enter a whole new realm of annoyance. Honestly, ad companies make huge mistakes sometimes. I realize that in order for an ad to be effective, it has to be shown many times so that it can be imprinted on your brain and the subliminal command to buy brand x, y, or x can kick in. But if the commercial is irritating enough or even if it's a good commercial that amuses me and shown too often, then there's a problem. See, if a commercial pisses me off enough with it's super-irritatingness or if I've just seen it so often that I'm sick of it, something bad for the company happens. I get so tired of the crap they're showing me that I make a point of never buying anything from that store ever again (assuming I've bought anything there before). So then they're out of luck because they've lost my business for all time and all because of one commercial that some idiot came up with. Poor them. I imagine you all wish to take a moment now to commiserate with those gigantic companies that make millions if not billions of dollars every year for the loss of one potential customer. Go ahead, I won't stop you. Done? Good. Now since it's nearly 5 am, maybe I should go back to bed and see if that'll work out. I was asleep for like 4 & 1/2 hours earlier, so maybe that'll be enough, but then again, sleep is my friend and I shouldn't neglect it. Feeling lucky? Choose an Entry At RANDOM! Yes. Random.
