Scoo-bee-do-bee-do, scoo-ba-de-do. Haaaaaaa...I shouldn't have watched the Cartoon Network today. I wonder if I'm practicing my impression of a procrastinating insomniac again. I hope not. Or couldn't I do this tomorrow night instead? I mean, at least then I can blow off work or stay at work late and sleep in a bit. Not have to go to class... argh. :-P Pfft. I don't even have anything to say. I don't know why I'm writing. My creativity is already on the decline and I haven't even really written anything. Oh yeah, I know why I'm updating, it's b/c this has become a compulsion and it was time. Blargh.
modicum (n. MAH-dih-kum or MOE-dih-kum)
: a small portion : a limited quantity
What does modicum have to do with a toilet? It just so happens that modicum shares the same Latin parent as commode, which is a synonym of toilet. Modicum and commode ultimately derive from the Latin noun modus, which means measure. Modicum has been a part of the English language since the 15th century. It descends from the Latin modicus (moderate), which is itself a descendant of modus. (Logically enough, modicum refers to a small measure of something.) Modus really measures up as a Latin root -- it also gave us mode (originally a kind of musical measure), modal, model, modern, modify, and modulate. More distant
relatives include mete, moderate, and modest.
You know what? I realize I haven't written much here, and I really don't care. I need this window for something else now so I must be finished. Besides, I had a little over 4 hours to write something here and I didn't so I guess this must not be that important. Not like that many people are going to pay attention and see this anyway.
